Join us for an exciting journey into the world of DIY bookbinding, right from the comfort of your own home. Together we will explore the art of Japanese stab binding, a technique that's not only accessible but also involves no complicated paper folding or messy adhesives.

Discover the magic of creating beautiful, hand-bound books with everyday supplies you probably have lying around your house, including ideas for using recycled materials. By the end of this class, you'll proudly walk away with your very own stab-bound book, eagerly awaiting your personal touch – whether that means filling it with your thoughts, artistry, or whatever inspires you.

This class is virtual, but will meet live at 6pm on November 14th. Please bring the supplies listed below.

Supplies Needed:

  • Cutting mat

  • Cutting knife

  • Pencil

  • Bone Folder

  • Ruler

  • Sheets for text block

  • Decorative paper for cover, or recycled chipboard (like a cereal box)

  • Waxed bookbinding thread or embroidery thread

  • Sewing needle

  • Scissors

  • Awl/Punching needle

  • Punching Mat (optional)

  • Beeswax (optional, helpful to wax embroidery thread)

About the Instructor:

Lindsey works closely with our Executive Director on fundraising, event planning, membership, exhibitions and programming. As Communications Director, she manages all communications and media relations, including social media, mailings, and newsletters, as well as user engagement and data collection. Lindsey also writes our press releases, and is our in-house designer for all digital, print and overall marketing content, developing our brand voice and integrity across all platforms.

Lindsey holds an Associate of Fine Arts from Raritan Valley Community College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kean University. She majored in Studio Arts with a specialization in Printmaking, Papermaking, and Book Arts.
