Angela Martin
Martin graduated from the Scottish College of Textiles and worked as a freelancer designer and fine artist in Edinburgh before moving to New York City to become a textile designer. As a freelance artist, she has created original artworks for major home, fashion and stationary outlets.
“The brief for this project was a commentary on veterans and the trials they face upon returning home. The card I was assigned was the King of Hearts. My immediate thought was how so many veterans struggle for basic elements of life and some struggle to maintain acceptable living conditions” said the artist. In executing her concept, Angela Martin was inspired to return to her love of the silkscreen process. Her use of strong visual symbols, and emphasis on contrast and pattern have resulted in a powerful graphic piece of art.
Martin resides in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, fellow artist Stephen Gardner, whose art is also on view. Martin is currently the director of print and pattern for baby GAP and Sleep.
